The FOOL: Where the Journey Begins
The FOOL Card itself is about renewal in choice; it is a decision to start an adventure. The beautiful thing about the fool is that it’s an energy that is continually revisited and rooted in authenticity.
When I think of the FOOL, I think of new beginnings. I was first drawn to it because of its openness toward any outcome- it is pure manifestation. Anything is possible in this energy. To be a master, you must first be willing to be the fool.
The Fool energy can be somewhat of a trap energy,
The FOOL is vulnerability- it's the willingness to be perceived poorly and to kindly say goodbye to the version of self that has existed in previous journeys. It is a commitment to a new way of life and a new self. It's the very first step.
Life is much like a path- it looks different for everyone. Our choices determine where we find ourselves, and often, our views are shaped by those choices. How do we make those choices? How do we get to where we want to go? Is this even possible?
The FOOL energy always says YES, because it is the embodiment of decision.
So, what does this really mean?
Have you ever felt like life was boring? Or you find yourself wishing for something else- something beyond your current surroundings? I don’t mean you went on a movie date and realized the person you’re with eats so loudly that you can’t focus and all you want to do is go home and snuggle your dog.
I mean life feels lackluster. Your job isn’t fulfilling, you’re always tired, the people you spend time with just don’t get it, and you find yourself asking: Is this all there is?
Maybe you’re walking down the street one day and see someone smiling and laughing- their face lit up, their joy almost tangible. You may wonder how they got that way, and then realize-I haven’t felt joy like that in… I don’t know how long. But I want too again.
Congratulations- you have met the energy of The FOOL.
The FOOL doesn’t solve our problems; it is the moment of revelation and desire. It's the recognition of a need for change. The FOOL’s energy asks you to get real with yourself and see where things need to shift- your habits, your beliefs about yourself and the world around you, and the way you show up in those spaces.
We may find that we dull ourselves to keep friends, afraid they will leave if we become who we truly are. Perhaps you fear setting boundaries with a partner because it's always been a certain way. It can be as intimate as the way we see ourselves and how we identify in the world.
This energy is the embodiment of change- an awareness of who we really are and what we must do to become that.
This work is rooted in courage- the courage to move toward authenticity without knowing what it will look like or how to do it. It can provoke anxiety. We must meet ourselves in shadows- in the places where we don’t fully love ourselves, in the face of adversity, in the noise of the world.
We must be able to say, I know I can and then try- with the understanding that we may not get it right the first time, but that it is worth the effort to gain our vision, our freedom.
The FOOL: New Beginnings, anxiety, fear, softness, courage, joy, bravery, commitment, acceptance, failure and bumps in the road, determination, self-mastery, identity shift, manifestation, external world movement- revelation & desire- New Beginnings.
We meet the Fool within ourselves and in others continually throughout our lives. At its purest, this energy is joy, excitement, and self-empowerment.
